Did you know there is a growing trend in using biogas power to fuel farm and agribusiness operations? Thanks to our friends at The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company, we learned more about this newer trend in the U.S. to turn power from manure into fuel!
According to the EPA, there are about 140 agricultural biogas operations in the U.S. today compared to only 30 ten years ago. There is a large potential market for these operations, and there are an estimated 1,000 planned or under construction. The trend is on the rise as many large and smaller farming and agricultural operations look to find new ways to reuse and profit from a readily available commodity - manure!
Although many biogas operations can be found in dairy farms, biogas exists in swine, beef and poultry. The biogas from animal waste can be treated through a digester and the gas turned into sources for power generation or resale to local power companies.
There is a large capitol investment required to start up an agricultural biogas power generation system, however it can pay dividends. To learn more about putting manure to work for you and for more information and additional resources on this growing trend, visit www.agstar.com.
